just be honest,,especially if u still want to remain friends. there is no nice way to break up with someone and the only way to get someone to break up with you is to treat them badly, which isnt nice either and even worse. i know thats not the answer u wanted, but there is no nice way to do it and the easiest and nicest way to do it is to be honest.
